Welcome to the Richmond Academy of Medicine’s website. Recently, Academy physicians identified the core principles doctors believe are vital for patient centric healthcare reform. We believe that: all patients need greater access to affordable, quality healthcare; a greater supply of primary care physicians is the best way to build stronger, healthier communities; patients are the decision makers and have a right to know quality and pricing information; modern information technology protects patient safety and eliminates inefficiencies in care; a free market can best guarantee access to affordable coverage, promote consumers, and deliver value; the healthcare of children, seniors, the disabled and the very poor is best guaranteed through access to government programs; doctors should be rewarded for "best practices" and quality care -- not volume care; all healthcare should be patient-centered, not profit driven; end-of-life care in the home is compassionate but inadequate payment options exist.
