RAM PRESIDENT SZUCS PLEDGES TO MOVE 'ENERGETICALLY FORWARD' IN 2012
Calling for more physician leadership to meet the "dramatic" shifts in health care, Richard A. Szucs, MD, was inaugurated as the 116th President of the Richmond Academy of Medicine Tuesday night before more than 160 fellow physicians, family members and guests at RAM's winter meeting at the Country Club of Virginia.

In a poignant moment, he was joined by 30 past presidents of RAM who were greeted with a standing ovation.

Szucs, a radiologist at Commonwealth Radiology, P.C., called on all physicians to join the Academy in tackling the problems facing the medical community today.

"Our community outreach efforts must be more vigorous if we are to remain relevant in today's medical marketplace. In 2012,we plan to expand Academy staff to permit more external engagement. We envision a future that has your Academy visible in corporate boardrooms, medical practices and hospital systems and actively engaged in the legislative process. If we do not take this route, we risk losing relevance for our members.

"To meet these challenges requires both considerable human talent and money. Our commitment to you is to do our best, to continue moving energetically forward and to always remember that any success we have is due to our members collectively and their support of this organization. I thank you for the opportunity to serve as your president."

An edited copy of Dr. Szucs' speech will be included in the Winter 2012 edition of Ramificationsthat will be mailed to all RAM members by late February.

WHITE COATS ON CALL --- SAVE THE DATES

Please mark your calendars!  The Richmond Academy of Medicine's White Coat Days are:

  • TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2012
  • WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2012

White Coat Days are MSV's signature grassroots lobbying days held each year during the General Assembly session in Richmond. White Coat Days ensure the near-daily presence of physicians at the Capitol and give physicians the opportunity to tell their delegates and senators about the challenges facing the practice of medicine and Virginia's healthcare system.

Save these dates on your calendar.  Join your colleagues to advocate for the practice of medicine.  Without your efforts to reach out to legislators, they may not have your best interests in mind!
