Dr. Mark Greenawald, Vice Chair for the Carilion Clinic Department of Family and Community Medicine as well as the Medical Director for Physician Leadership and Professional Development for Carilion Clinic, will be the Academy's guest speaker for our Tuesday, May 9th Membership Meeting.  Through his leadership as Chair of the Carilion Professional Well-Being Committee, Dr. Greenawald and the Carilion Clinic are tackling one of the most complex and deeply entrenched afflictions in medicine --- professional burnout --- and are attempting to bring burnout under control in their health system. Their work was highlighted in a US News and World Report special report on physician burnout in October of 2016.   We'll hear from Dr. Greenawald on Carilion's progress in addressing this epidemic problem in healthcare.

In line with its mission to promote friendship and support of the medical family,  the Alliance is generously sponsoring the May 9th dinner to allow spouses to take part in this event as this issue of professional burnout is something that affects the entire medical family. In addition to hosting programming for its members, the alliance's foundation also works to fundraise for deserving health-related beneficiaries in our community including Access Now. This year's fundraiser is the 4th-Annual Physicians Got Fashion Show taking place on April 8th.
