This program will discuss:
• The importance of ruling out alpha-1 antitrypsindeficiency (alpha-1), a possible genetic cause of COPD according to the American Thoracic Society (ATS) guidelines.
• Case studies and myths associated with alpha-1, including the ideas that all COPD is caused by smoking, only younger patients should be tested, alpha-1 is rare, and there is no treatment.

Participants will learn how easy it is to use the free AlphaKitTM tests, strategies on how to incorporate the tests into their practice as well as what support is available to providers and patients if an alpha-1 patient or carrier is identified.

Mary Pierce, Alpha-1 advocate, will also speak on "Alpha 1 Deficiency: One Patient's Journey."
